Kotra is a building designed for private clients who sought a high-quality and warm frame for family life, one that would harmonize with the dramatic landscape of Eyjafjörður. The surrounding forest, mountains, views, and weather conditions were all significant factors that influenced the design and execution.

Prefabricated timber units placed on a concrete foundation were chosen to reduce the building's carbon footprint, minimize material waste, and accelerate assembly. The building's form is shaped and designed to minimize the effect off local wind patterns, with large windows oriented to capture the best views. The building form also shaped the choice of cladding; the exterior wall cladding extends seamlessly onto the roof, giving the geometric design a unified appearance.
