H59 is a 500 m² housing project commissioned by Félagsbústaðir, Reykjavík’s non-profit social housing company. Designed for young adults with disabilities taking their first step towards independent living, the project demonstrates how environmental responsibility, social inclusion, and high-quality architecture can be developed as a single design approach. Bright communal spaces, generous roof terraces, and carefully designed shared areas encourage social interaction, independence, and a strong sense of community.
H59 has become a leading example of circular architecture in Iceland. It has been nominated for the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Awards 2026, Icelandic Design Awards 2025 and is the winner of Circular Society category at the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Awards, recognising its contribution to both sustainable architecture and social innovation.
